Thanks so much for visiting my blog! My name is Jessica. Although I’ve been fascinated by drums and music all of my life, it wasn’t until my mid-forties that I took the leap and gave myself permission to take my desires seriously. I’d tooled around with the drums briefly before this, but this time, I dove in and kept going.
There are many, many outstanding blogs and sites that offer technical advice on playing the drums. I’m afraid this isn’t one of them! I’m a late-blooming drummer, after all, so I don’t think I’m quite ready to offer practical advice on how to play.
What I can do is share my thoughts and insights on what it’s like to be a middle-aged drummer chasing a life-long dream. All the joy, frustrations, excitement, road blocks, self-doubts, and accomplishments, however big or small-nothing will be left out. Any words of wisdom that others have given to me will be offered to you! Think of this more as “drumming between the ears”: the psychological and emotional side of our art.
I hope that you, the reader, can take away something useful. Even if reading these posts bring on feelings of “geez, at least I’m not alone”, “I didn’t know that”, or “she did what?”, this blog will have served its purpose.
I also hope non-drummers enjoy this blog as well as drummers of all levels. There’s always something to learn. Drumming, like many things, can be a journey without end.
